Howarth Jewellers, which has branches in Mawdesly St., Bolton and Market St. in Little Lever, was founded in 1958 by Roger Howarth, a time-served watch repairer and a Fellow of the British Horological Institute.

Twin sons Carl and Mike joined the business in the late seventies, Mike as a watchmaker and Carl as a jeweller. Both served their time and qualified at college.   Daughters Gwen and Janet have also taken their place in the family business, Janet is a gemologist and a fellow of the Gemological Association, and Gwen is one of the country's few lady watchmakers.

Roger & Joyce Howarth are now both semi-retired and the shops are run by Mike and Carl.  Mike was responsible for bringing the family right up to date by establishing this Internet site.
